Questions about our Care Communities & Aged Care

  • These terms are often used interchangeably. At Opal HealthCare, we use “Care Community” to reflect our focus on person- centred care, relationship-centred care, belonging, lifestyle, and wellbeing. A nursing home or aged care home traditionally refers to the same type of residential aged care, where 24-hour support, meals, and clinical care is provided.

  •  The cost of aged care depends on your financial situation, care needs, and government subsidies. Fees may include accommodation, daily care fees, and additional service fees. To understand costs in detail, visit our Aged Care costs page.

  • An Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) review is a government assessment that determines your eligibility for residential aged care and the level of support you may receive. It is a free service and essential before moving into a Care Community or aged care home.

  • All our Care Communities offer access to physiotherapy and allied health services such as occupational therapy, speech pathology, and dietetics to support mobility, recovery, and overall wellbeing.

  • After completing an ACAT assessment, you can apply directly to your preferred Care Communities. Our team can guide you through availability, costs, and required documents.

  • Consider location, type of care, services (such as dementia care or respite), lifestyle programs, and the warmth of the environment. We encourage families to visit our care communities to experience the atmosphere first-hand.
