My aunt stayed at Oakleigh Manor for about a year before she passed away recently from lung cancer. We had always been very impressed with the grounds, staff, food and rooms at the Manor. Rooms were nicely decorated and appointed, common areas spacious enough and tastefully decorated, there were very pleasant common areas inside and well-kept peaceful outdoor areas. The weekly activities planner always appeared to have something different available for residents to attend, and there were scheduled physio sessions available as well. The nursing staff looking after my aunt always seemed to have time for her, and when we had queries, these were always answered satisfactorily. The nurses in charge were very knowledgable and helpful, in particular Maria As my aunt became more frail and dependent, measures were taken to prevent falls and encourage oral intake. Meals became vitamised when her swallowing became too weak, but remained as appetising as vitamised meals could be. The visiting medical specialist was contactable and happy to discuss my aunt’s case and open to suggestions for the direction of her care. When it was clear she was approaching end of life she was given all appropriate comfort measures and the communication from the nursing staff was very good Even when it was clear she would pass away shortly, the quality of care never lapsed - the staff were incredibly sensitive, competent and supportive, giving us frequent updates and appropriately escalating palliative care. They offered us the opportunity of staying with her overnight, and on the day she passed away, very tastefully organised to have her favourite song played with all the other residents and staff who knew her well lining the hall to form a guard of honour to say goodbye, with rose petals strewn in her wake Overall we have only good things to say about Oakleigh Manor and all the staff who were involved with my aunts care throughout her stay
