Recycling strengthens community bonds at Wallarah Point

28th April 2026 | 4 min read

For decades, people have flocked to the Central Coast of NSW for the sea, the sun, and the fresh air. At Wallarah Point Care Community, recycling is one way our residents and team members help protect their outdoor lifestyle from pollution, create a greener world, and contribute to local community organisations.

Three years ago, our resident-led committee developed the idea of recycling plastic bottles for cash, with all funds donated to local organisations including Toukley Sea Scouts, Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club and Cancer Council Australia.

Each month, residents and our team take a trip to the local Return and Earn recycling point to exchange plastic bottles for cash. And the return from every bottle adds up to impact in our community.

For Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club, our donations contribute to surf lifesaver training and assist with valuable resources to undertake beach safety research and education initiatives.

The commitment of our residents and team provides vital support for the next generation of surf lifesavers. Recently, residents Leila and Lola were proud to attend the club’s awards ceremony with team members Julie and Tan to present this year’s Nipper and Nipperette of the Year - awards sponsored by Wallarah Point Care Community to recognise the outstanding contributions of our youngest generation.

"It's wonderful to support our younger generation through our recycling efforts and by giving back to the community,” says Lola. “It's a great reminder that living green and keeping our environment clean isn't just for the young - our older generation is proud to lead the way too."
