Big hearts, big impact at Rutherford Park

Residents at Rutherford Park Care Community in the NSW Hunter region are helping local families experiencing hardship through donations and community fundraising efforts in support of Maitland Region Community Support (MRCS).
By donating essential items and creating handmade blankets, residents are continuing to give back to the local community they call home while supporting individuals and families who need a little extra help.

Supporting the community that supports us
Across Australia, local communities thrive on the generosity, compassion and connection of their members. At Rutherford Park Care Community, that community spirit is on display through our relationship with Maitland Region Community Support (MRCS), which provides practical assistance to people facing difficult circumstances.
When residents came together to discuss causes they wanted to support, helping local families through MRCS was a natural choice.
"Whether residents grew up here or came to the Hunter later in life, they're deeply embedded in the local community and want to give back to the place they call home," says wellbeing manager Kell.
"The idea of looking out for one another and helping in any way we can matters deeply to our residents and everyone at our Care Community."
Resident, Roma hopes the initiative inspires others to get involved in their communities.
"We hope others will follow our lead and support their local communities. It's so important," she says.
A practical way to make a difference
Residents wanted to focus on providing support that could make an immediate impact for local individuals and families.
Rutherford Park’s hamper drive brought together residents, families, visitors and team members, who donated non-perishable food, hygiene essentials, coffee sachets and other everyday items.
Residents also contributed their time and talents by crocheting blankets to provide warmth and comfort for people in need.
Together, our Care Community donated four hampers and eight handmade rugs for local families.
Creating meaningful impact through community connection
At Rutherford Park Care Community, supporting locals is part of our fabric of life.
The success of the recent hamper drive has already inspired future plans, with residents preparing a Christmas toy and hamper drive to continue supporting Maitland Region Community Support and local families across the Hunter region.
