Opal HealthCare finalist for 2023 NSW Sustainability Awards

We are delighted to announce that Opal HealthCare has been nominated as a finalist for the 2023 NSW Sustainability Awards under the Large Business Sustainable Leadership category.
The awards seek to recognise innovation and leadership through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) lens.
We have served people and communities across Australia for over 45 years and currently, we provide high quality residential aged care for over 8,500 older people nationally.
We are changing peoples’ perceptions of aged care through our care and services, while addressing sustainability from a whole-of-business perspective. This means delivering high-quality care for our residents while adapting for the future, supporting and nurturing our team through fulfilling careers, doing our best to protect the environment, and enriching society.
Some of our sustainability integration achievements include:
- The sector leading Opal HealthCare Academy – our inhouse learning academy that supports the attraction, retention, development, progression and wellbeing of our team.
- Initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of our buildings such as solar, rainwater harvesting, sustainable gardens and electrification.
- Providing transparency around our care and services for customers by being the first aged care provider in Australia to publish customer reviews and satisfaction scores on our website.
- Creating employment pathways for school students which combine work in our Care Communities with aged care training as part of their high school studies.
- Achieving Australia’s first social loan for aged care to support our existing services and the development of new Care Communities to meet the needs of the ageing population.
- Embedding sustainability governance systems and practices across our organisation
Opal HealthCare’s social impact goals are embedded in our organisational strategy and operations, informed by our social impact [materiality] survey and endorsed by our Opal HealthCare board. They align with the UN SDGs and underpin our fundamental purpose of delivering high quality care for older people now, and into the future.
The NSW Sustainability Awards are run in partnership between the Banksia Foundation and NSW Government Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC).
The awards presentation will be on 7 December and features 35 finalists across 12 categories.
