At Western Port Bay Care Community we encourage our residents to live a life of meaning and purpose. The team at Western Port Bay Care Community have been absolutely fantastic in caring for my mum. Transitioning from independent living to aged care was a big change, but the staff made the process incredibly smooth and supportive for both Mum and our family. Every staff member we’ve encountered has been friendly, compassionate, and clearly focused on delivering the best possible care. A special thank you to Jade from admissions, who has gone above and beyond at every step — her guidance and genuine care made a world of difference during what could have been a very overwhelming time. The food is excellent, and the facilities are clean, modern, and welcoming. We feel so reassured knowing Mum is in such capable and caring hands. Highly recommend.

The ‘Memory Support Unit’ (Seagull) is one of the best Dementia–Specific Units you can find. My husband was a resident in Seagull from September 2022 to December 2024. Over the time, I have witnessed an evolving Memory Support Unit into a Unit of Excellence with increasing interaction, engagement, wellbeing and lifestyle activities. This is an ongoing process giving the residents the best quality of life that can be achieved. The Care Manager and Clinical Nurse Educator ensure the best nursing care practices are in place and staff are continually updated with new practices and skills. Many innovative ideas and proven ways of caring for those with Dementia have been implemented and this continues as an ongoing with a dedicated Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator who is continually finding new ways and ideas to improve each resident’s quality of life. Lifestyle Activities are run 7 days per week offering a large variety of group & individual fun activities & purpose orientated craft, concerts and outings. Jigsaws, puzzles, etc are always available. Craft activities are organised with a purpose…items made can be used in their rooms, used as gifts for family or sold at the annual Market Stall which Opal runs so as the Market comes to the Residents. Each resident is treated as an individual with love and respect. Plans are created to meet a resident’s specific needs at the time and updated as needs change. If there is challenging behaviour, they will seek outside support for the resident and staff. Families are important and regarded as part of the Seagull family. Family members are well supported through all stages of the dementia journey from the first time they step inside the Seagull Unit. Staff are always ready and willing to support the family in whatever way they can. This can be with one-on-one chats, debrief sessions and meetings with members of the Opal Leadership Team. In response to family members’ initiative re the possibility of setting up a Support Group for family members from Seagull Unit, this was received with very positive encouragement and has been meeting regularly for 18 months. This has bonded families who are experiencing life with a loved one in the Memory Support Unit. A very important Support Network. When my husband passed away on Christmas Eve, he was surrounded by an excellent Care Team who supported him and our family during his final hours in a loving and respectful way while demonstrating their exemplary professionalism in an emotional situation for the family and all staff as he had been a very loved member of the Seagull family for a long time.

Exemplary Care with extensive resident and family support networks. Whether entering the front door or along corridors, one is greeted by name and a friendly smile by all staff who know each resident / family by name. Each resident is treated as an important part of the whole community and is treated with love and respect. Families are welcomed and listened to. The ‘Hands-on’ General Manager has an ‘open door’ and listens to any concerns followed by a quick response. Nothing is trivial. Care Team show professionalism and excellence with a friendly smile and are kept abreast of new methods by Clinical Educator. Scheduled wellbeing and lifestyle activities 7 days per week supplemented with several Pop-up Activity Stations. Residents are encouraged to pursue interests including gardening, craft, games, etc. Resident Food Committee ensure a seasonally varied menu with alternatives available. Highly recommend that you consider this as your new home.
