Residents enjoy ‘hump day’ at Marsden Park

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you never see coming. Recently, a chance discovery by one of our dedicated volunteers at Marsden Park Care Community in Sydney’s north-west, turned into a lifelong memory for our residents.
While he was driving in the local area, volunteer Scott spotted a paddock of camels. Knowing how much our residents cherish animals, he followed his intuition and stopped to chat with the owner, Dave, who told Scott our residents were welcome to visit any time.
In the following days, our residents made two special trips with Scott to see the camels, armed with bags of carrots. Social activities coordinator, Muna, said the experience created beautiful moments of connection for our residents.
“The camels moved with such quiet dignity, softly taking treats from outstretched hands and bringing an immediate sense of peace to everyone,” said Muna.
"They have such kind, knowing eyes,” said resident Ray. “It felt like they were really looking at me, not just the carrot."
For our residents, Scott’s thoughtfulness and Dave’s simple act of kindness proved you’re never too old for new experiences.
“I’ve never seen a camel this close in my life,” said resident Josip. “It’s the best trip I’ve ever been on.”
“At my age, I thought I’d seen everything, but feeding a camel was a first I’ll never forget," said resident George.
