Embracing new beginnings: new resident experiences in aged care

“She has now a lovely life, and that’s the word—a life. She has a lifestyle there.” – Kris, daughter-in-law of resident Mary at Glenmore Park Care Community.
Navigating the challenges of a new chapter in aged care
For Mike and his wife Kris, seeing his mum Mary's once-sharp wit and humour begin to fade was difficult. Known for her independence, Mary had always valued her privacy. But as her memory began to decline, her world started to narrow.
“It was a real challenge,” Mike reflects. “She had no idea there was anything wrong with her whatsoever.”
When it became evident that Mary needed more support, Mike and Kris faced the difficult task of approaching the subject of residential aged care.
“We introduced the idea of a ‘holiday,’” recalls Mike. “But she was adamant: ‘I don’t need that. I’ll be here at my house.’” After exploring options, the family chose Glenmore Park Care Community, believing it could offer both the care and lifestyle Mary deserved.
Finding comfort and companionship at Glenmore Park Care Community
After the move, Mike and Kris were concerned about how Mary would adapt to her new surroundings. To their surprise, they found her engaged and social.
“Our first sight of Mum was at a table with other residents, chatting away. She’s such an introvert, yet there she was, driving the conversation,” Mike shares.
Glenmore Park provided Mary with a welcoming environment, enabling her to live on her own terms.
Embracing a fulfilling lifestyle in aged care
Since moving to Glenmore Park, Mary has embraced a lifestyle filled with contentment.
“She’s comfortable, she’s bright, she’s happy,” says Kris. “It’s not the end of life; it’s a stage of life.”
For Mike and Kris, seeing Mary’s thrive in our supportive Care Community has reassured them of their decision. Surrounded by compassionate care and companionship, Mary is enjoying a meaningful life, filled with dignity and joy.
Kris adds, “It’s nice to talk about it because it reiterates that we did the right thing. She’s in a great place.”
