A new vision for Wahroonga Place
The Hornsby Shire has double the population of people over 85 than the rest of Sydney, according to the last Census. Coupled with Australia's ageing population, there is a need for more homes for seniors in Wahroonga, so locals can stay in the community as their needs change.
We also understand how important the built environment is to an exceptional living experience in care.
We are preparing a proposal to redevelop Wahroonga Place Care Community to offer more rooms, in a range of high-quality on-site services for our residents, in a contemporary, custom-designed building.
We are focused on delivering a Care Community that aligns smart building design with expert craftsmanship to meet the expectations of the local community of Wahroonga.
Anchoring the entrance to the Pacific Highway.
The Pacific Highway would reaming the main entrance and frontage for the Care Community, with residents, team members, visitors and deliveries received from this entrance.
Accessible design principles.
More accessible pathways, elevators and other measures would ensure the Care Community is accessible for people of all abilities.
Basement parking and facilities.
Although our residents don’t drive, we would provide basement parking for the team, visitors, team, and deliveries, with access via a driveway from the Pacific Highway. The laundry, kitchen, utilities and storage facilities would also be located in the basement.
Communal areas for connection.
The building design would include central communal spaces to bring people together with bedrooms allocated in wings across the building.
Wahroonga-style living.
The redeveloped Wahroonga Place Care Community would be a welcoming, vibrant place that meets the high expectations of people living in the area. Our Care Community would offer older people living in Wahroonga, who can no longer live in their own homes, access to the services they need to continue to live locally and maintain their health and wellbeing.
Vegetation screening and internal gardens.
We would incorporate vegetation along the boundaries to enhance privacy for our neighbours. A series of landscaped terraces across our Care Community would also provide greenery for our residents.
Next steps
We are preparing technical studies and reports around the proposed design, to submit with the development application. Over the coming months, we will consult our residents, families, neighbours and the nearby neighbourhood to discuss our proposal.
