My wife Annie entered Ivanhoe Grand Care community, formally known as Blue Cross, at the end of March 2024. For the 15 months that Annie was in age care , I visited her six days out of seven per week . This gives me a very strong perspective of how the community functions .My overall experience is excellent with caring and competent staff, first rate facilities, a responsive administrative team and a plethora of interesting activities. The personal carers who looked after my wife were sensitive, kind , responsive to requests and very competent. The registered nurses team as well as the care coordinators kept a sharp eye on Annie’s health. The food quality and service for meals is of a very high standard. Events like happy hour on a Friday afternoons are joyous occasions along with various special event celebrations. If a loved one enters age care, it’s critical that the principal carer takes a close interest in all aspects of the care community, for you become part of an extended family. Before Annie entered the Ivanhoe community, I assessed nine other age care facilities. I chose Ivanhoe as number one and was delighted when she was accepted at Ivanhoe. I should like to thank all of the staff at Ivanhoe for the wonderful care they provided to Annie and, I might also add , me, over the 15 months that she was a resident.

Standards have deteriorated from an already low base to very poor. While most staff are dedicated, the change from Blue Cross to Opal has resulted in an even lower staff ratio at peak times. They're prioritising profit over care to the detriment of residents - and families. God forbid that if I require aged care that I end up here as a resident...

BlueCross Ivanhoe is a very bad place. They have employees inexperienced. Young care and nurses especially in lower ground floor — no good. There’s a new young nurse and care staff which they don’t know how to treat residents. They leave them so dirty they don’t even care whether they’re clean or not. They don’t ensure that these dementia residents are even fed. All they do just gather them self around in the nurse station and chatting. My husband has been there for over than a year. And there are many problems with the nurses and the staff. All the company wants is money, money, money, for very poor service. The facility does not have a secure and stable manager. There is no manager, only fill in positions until they find someone works for a few months and then they leave due to low income. The carers and nurses are employed from Asia, they are all on visa or residency. They don’t care about the elderly. They just want to stay in Australia and keep their hands clean. That’s why the residents are neglected.

My mother in law is currently staying at this facility, her husband of over 40 years died suddenly and we tried to take her out to see him to say her goodbyes. We were told that she would be unable to say goodbye to her husband as their wasn't an available staff member to accompany her and she wasn't allowed out on her own, despite having two people there willing to take her and a maxi taxi to transport her to the palliative care facility ten minutes away. We waited for hours only to be told, no she can't farewell her husband. Really hoping that there is an available staff member to let her attend her husbands funeral. That would be nice if she was actually allowed to go.
