Having a sense of purpose is essential to our wellbeing. At Maitland Grange Care Community in NSW’s Hunter Valley, resident Judy finds joy in bringing her skills to helping fellow residents and our team.

Judy moved in to Maitland Grange Care Community in August 2022, with her husband Ron. After Ron passed away, Judy found herself searching for meaning, eventually taking on an increasingly active role in helping Maitland Grange hum.

As a 35-year member of the Lions Club of Maitland, helping runs in Judy’s blood. Our team spoke with Judy to learn more about the things that made her happy, and how they could support her to bring more of that enjoyment to her life at Maitland Grange.

“I began assisting by answering phones and delivering newspapers to the residents,” says Judy. “I also contributed to making RAT kits before handing that to another resident, who is loving the responsibility.”

“I volunteered to assist the Lifestyle Committee, and from that, I now take our monthly meeting minutes, I put together a Cooking Committee and organised a monthly visit from a local Anglican Minister.”

Depending on the day, visitors to Maitland Grange Care Community could find Judy preparing food for big events like our Melbourne Cup celebrations, New Year’s Eve, organising Christmas stalls, and even turning sausages on the barbeque.

For Judy, serving her community and seeing people blossom is what it’s all about.

“I thoroughly enjoy supporting my fellow residents and being able to help cater to their unique talents,” she says.
