Addressing the need for quality aged care services

The increased need for quality aged care services and ways to ensure a good quality of life for residents of facilities were two of the topics discussed at the Orange Grove community dinner on Wednesday night.

The event was attended by nearly 120 people including Orange City councilors, health professionals referrers, and Probus groups.

Orange Grove Care Community manager Suzie Gardner said with demand for aged care increasing as the population gets older, so did the need for specialist care.

“As you can imagine a lot of people would ideally like to stay in their own homes, so we make the facility as homely as possible,” she said.

She also said making sure residents were independent was crucial to aged care, and staff at the facility had received education for helping treat dementia.

Deputy mayor of Orange Joanne McRae said the dinner was a “fantastic event.”

It not only bought the community together but it also allowed attendees to take part in an important conversation around ageing and aged care,” she said.
